ByteCents is reader-supported. This page explains, in plain terms, how that works — because trust in a buying guide starts with knowing who's paying for it.

The short version

• Some links on this Site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a commission.
• It costs you nothing extra — the price is identical to clicking through the retailer's homepage.
• Commissions never influence what we recommend or how we rank picks.

The long version

This Site participates in affiliate programs operated by retailers including Amazon. As applicable law and the Amazon Associates program require, we disclose: "As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases." Similar notices appear on commercial guides, before product picks.

When a link is an affiliate link, it may carry an identifying tag in the URL. That tag tells the retailer "this customer came from ByteCents," which is how the commission is credited. It carries no personal data about you.

How picks are actually made

Our process is documented on the About page. In brief: we shortlist from published specifications and documented owner feedback, define the real-life scenario each pick wins in, and state the trade-offs. Products we wouldn't suggest to a friend don't appear — regardless of commission rate. We have no obligation to retailers, and no retailer sees a guide before publication.

Prices

We don't quote exact prices in guides because retail prices move daily. Pick cards link to the retailer's current listing so you see the real number, not a stale one that made a copywriter happy.

What affiliate money does NOT buy

• No paid placements or "sponsored" picks inside buying guides.
• No guaranteed reviews — receiving a commission doesn't soften a con in our lists.
• No sale of the Site's rankings, data, or email list (we don't even collect one).
